PRAY
Dear God,
I would be grateful for some guidance about making my amends.
I don’t want to hurt others in the process.
I don’t want to be selfish or self-centered in the way I do this.
I want to be useful to people whom I have harmed.
Protect me from evasion, deceit, explanations, rationalizations.
Protect me from all the tactics of self-defense.
Help me to tell the truth.
Then, help me to stop talking and to listen.
In those cases where direct amends are not possible
help me to creatively explore indirect amends.
In cases where ‘living amends’ are appropriate
help me to make long-term investments
in healthy relationships,
in honesty,
in a life of usefulness.
Amen.
